Dear Community,
On Wednesday, April 27th, the City Council’s Budget Committee will take up the Mayor’s proposed budget for FY 2011/2012. In the Mayor’s document is a proposal to permanently close the hook-and-ladder style Truck Company serving our community from our local firehouse.
If adopted, our Truck will be put into mothballs downtown, and the six firefighters currently assigned to respond to our neighbor’s emergencies will be transferred to other parts of the city.
The United Firefighters of Los Angeles City are opposed to this dangerous service reduction. They will conduct a press conference to state their opposition on the South Lawn steps of City Hall, on Wednesday the 27th, commencing at 12:30 p.m., just prior to the beginning of budget deliberations. Firefighters will be joined by some of the city’s elected officials, clergy members and business leaders.
We urge you to join them as well. With your help we might just be able to convince the Council’s Budget Committee to prioritize the life-saving work of firefighters and paramedics higher than some of the wasteful items included in the City’s budget.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR HILLSIDE VILLAGE?
We are directly affected by this budget cut. The new Budget calls for eliminating Rescue 16 and Rescue 40. Fire Station 47 will be losing an engine. We need to be out in full force. We can't let this happen again, because this will result in an increase in response times which can compromise lives among our neighbors, friends and firefighters . We need to show a strong support and make sure that the Budget Committee and Councilman Huizar hears us again. Call friends and neighbors and let everyone know.
